December Newsletter

Dear Students and Colleagues,

I am excited to write to all of you as we prepare to enter the final week of the semester and set our sights on a well-deserved winter break. One of my favorite events to close out the semester is Moonlight Breakfast. On Friday December 8 from 9pm - 11pm, Brockport Student Government will be hosting Moonlight Breakfast in Harrison Hall. Students with remaining swipes can use them to enter. Off campus students and those who no longer have swipes will be covered by BSG and the mandatory student fee. This event offers students a much-needed study break and an opportunity to connect with friends while enjoying food and activities. There will also be a magician, henna tattoos, and more. Moonlight Breakfast is the most important meal of the semester and is planned to provide the boost of energy students need to push through final assignments and exams. We hope you can join us.

As you prepare to close out the semester and the year, here are some things that may help:

  • Practice Gratitude – Find something positive to focus on every day and write it Gratitude helps retrain our brain chemicals to flow in a more positive light.
  • Keep Your Expectations Realistic – Don’t overschedule yourself trying to do everything.
  • Prioritize Self-Care – Simple as drinking plenty of water, eating healthy foods, getting enough sleep, and moving your body. Try a mindful meditation app for a few minutes a day.
  • Help Others – Volunteer for a local Service to others helps us feel empowered and uplifts our mood.
  • Dreading the holidays? – Visit a trained counselor in the Counseling Center! Staff can help determine whether you have the “holiday blues”, Seasonal Affective Disorder, clinical depression or just need to talk with They can help you sort out family concerns and manage stress. Whatever the concern, they are here to help.

In my reflection of the fall semester, I am proud of the work we have accomplished. I know that Student Affairs is having an impact because I see how staff interacts with students to problem solve and build meaningful connections; I hear stories from students across campus about why they love the people in student affairs and how they are making Brockport their home away from home; and I feel the energy and excitement within our campus community while attending the many programs and events we provide.

What has been your favorite memory from this fall semester? My favorite memory was Homecoming & Family Weekend. The BSG Carnival was a huge success and Comedian Roy Wood Jr was fantastic. I also reconnected with students and families I first met during summer orientation. This was indeed an amazing semester, and I am looking forward to continuing our work in the spring semester.

Department Updates

Residential Life will continue to offer housing during the winter break period. While some students will leave campus after final exams, residential students with a current housing contract are eligible to remain through the winter break. Students must complete the Winter Break Notification Form so we are aware of who is on campus and can make our best efforts to support residents choosing to remain on campus. To learn more, visit: Winter Break Notice & Information.

As part of our regular building inspection process we will inspect all rooms on Saturday December 16th to ensure windows are closed/locked, and no visible fire violations are present. More information with greater details will be sent to Residents prior to inspections.
