As we begin the 2023 holiday season, the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion would like you to be mindful of the various holidays that may be observed in the coming weeks. While Christmas tends to be the most visible of these holidays it is far from the only one being celebrated. We encourage everyone to share their traditions with members of the community and be open to learning about the traditions of others. Please be inclusive in your holiday greetings, celebrations, and office decorations, particularly if your office is public facing or in an open space.
Below is a brief list of the holidays taking place in the coming days and weeks.
- Hanukkah-December 7-15, 2023
- Christmas-December 25, 2023
- Kwanzaa-December 26, 2023 – January 1, 2024
SUNY Brockport recognizes the diverse faith traditions represented among its campus community, as well as those who do not practice a faith tradition, and supports the rights of faculty, staff, and students to observe or not according to these traditions.
I’d also like to share with you some updates about what OEDI has been working on during the fall semester.
Campus Climate Survey
The President’s Committee on Campus Climate has begun hosting forums to share the findings of the survey conducted in November 2022 and, most importantly, engage in discussions about how to improve our campus climate moving forward. The committee has completed a series of forums with the Division of Academic Affairs and is now scheduling forums for all remaining university divisions, Brockport University Senate, Brockport Student Government and other students. These forums will resume in January 2024. Additional Information will follow.
EDI Strategic Plan
The EDI Strategic Plan Committee is in the final stages of drafting a new plan for the next five years. Once the draft is complete, the committee will share with all shared governance bodies for review.
