Research Interests

My research focuses on the roles of molecular evolutionary processes, such as mutation, horizontal gene transfer, and recombination, on the evolution of genes and genomes. In particular, my recent work investigated the rates and causes of repeat-mediated genome rearrangement and horizontal gene transfer in the mitochondrial genomes of flowering plants, particularly in Monsonia, a genus in the geranium family.
