Policy Procedures

Degree requirements may change from time to time. SUNY Brockport has a policy that states that your degree requirements are fixed for the term you officially matriculate (that is, apply for — and receive — status as a degree candidate). Once you’re a matriculated student, you’re only required to meet the degree requirements that were in place on the day you matriculated, provided that your education continues uninterrupted, regardless of changes taking place later on. That goes for your major, too, even though you may not actually register as a major in a particular field until some later date.

You do have the option of pursuing the degree requirements that were in place when you matriculated, or choosing the ones established after that date. You just have to settle on one or the other, and not try to mix and match. If you have questions on a change in degree requirements, discuss them with your advisor or with a staff member of the Office of Academic Advisement.
