Darlene Schmitt, MSED
Office: Hazen Hall 118
Darlene Schmitt, a graduate from the Counselor Education Program at the College, is the Associate Director of the Counseling Center and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and has been worked at the College since 2003. Prior to that, she worked in a variety of mental health settings, including intensive outpatient substance abuse programs, criminal justice diversion programs, community mental health and primary care settings, as well as running a private practice. She was fortunate enough to be afforded the opportunity to be an adjunct professor in the Counselor Education program for a few years early on in her career at the College.
Clinically, Darlene considers herself a generalist who enjoys working with a diverse student population. One particular area of professional interest is utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectic Behavioral Therapy to address issues related to anxiety and depression. However, she is passionate about working with all students. In addition, Darlene is actively involved on campus, providing outreach and consultation as well as serving on several college-wide committees including the Employee Assistance Program, the Student Behavioral Consultant Team, and she is the Hazen representative in the College Senate.
