Bio
Dr. Kristin Heffernan joined SUNY Brockport as an assistant professor in 2008. She holds a MSW degree from Fordham University and a doctoral degree from Boston College. Prior to coming to SUNY Brockport, Dr. Heffernan was a faculty member at Royal Holloway, University of London as a social work lecturer in their Health and Social Care Department where she also served as the Director of the BSc Social Work (Hons) Program for four years. Dr. Heffernan’s specific research interests lie in social justice, promoting social work education, leadership, domestic violence, sex trafficking and women’s issues. She is currently working on developing best practices for social workers working in Human Trafficking using a Trauma Informed Lens. Dr. Heffernan teaches Social Work Methods I & II as well as Human Behavior in the Social Environment I & II. Her community-based practice has included clinical and administrative work with at risk youth and families in both New York and Boston.
