Bio

Dr. Ya-Ling Chen joined Brockport in Fall 2017 as a Lecturer with the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies. Dr. Chen is originally from Taiwan and received a bachelor’s degree at National Taiwan Normal University. She received her Master’s degree from Indiana University in Recreation Administration. She also completed her PhD from Indiana University Bloomington, majoring in Leisure Behavior with a concentration in Tourism, Hospitality, and Event Management.

Dr. Chen’s research interests include tourist experiences, sustainability, and green operations. In the recreation and tourism community, sustainable and green practices have been a focal point in the last decade. Her doctoral dissertation is titled “Influence of the Interactive Drivers on Lodging Experiences: The Case of Environmentally Friendly Hotels.”

Dr. Chen taught courses at Indiana University Bloomington prior to becoming a Golden Eagle. She likes to travel and spend time with her family. She is excited about her journey at Brockport as an instructor, a mentor and a member of Brockport community.
