Bio
Mike Starke grew up in Rochester, NY. After graduating high school he attended MCC in hopes of one day becoming an elementary school teacher. After earning an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education, Mike decided that elementary teaching wasn’t for him,but he still wanted to work with kids. So, he decided to become a nurse, and transferred to Brockport, graduating from the Traditional Nursing Program in 2014.
Landing his “dream job” right after graduation, Mike was hired to a general care pediatric unit at the Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong Memorial Hospital. After working for two and a half years as a bedside pediatric nurse, he transferred to the Pediatric Operating Room at GCH, where he still works per diem.
Working with nursing students while on the unit re-sparked his love for teaching. Mike earned his Master’s in Nursing Education degree from the University of Rochester. He finds it amazing to see his love for teaching and love for people come full circle with each other. He is excited to be able to return to the nursing school that he loved as a student and strongly believes in. Mike is excited to work alongside the professors that helped shape him as a nurse and he hopes to be able to do the same!
Mike enjoys traveling with his wife (who is also a nurse), playing the guitar and drums for church, playing ice hockey, and watching sports.
