Bio
Jen Chesebro grew up in Bernhards Bay, a rural area north of Syracuse. She began her nursing career by getting her BSN at SUNY Brockport (before the College’s name change) in 1994.
After graduation, she lived in North Carolina and then West Virginia, working as a staff nurse on a Medical Intermediate Care Unit and in ED settings. Jen earned her Masters of Science in Nursing degree in the Family Nurse Practitioner tract at West Virginia University in 1999. Through Jen’s experiences as a staff nurse and her clinicals in West Virginia, Jen developed an interest in caring for underserved populations, school health, and education.
After becoming licensed as a Family Nurse Practitioner, Jen returned to the Brockport area. Jen has worked in primary care and occupational health in office, mobile health and hospital settings. Jen became an adjunct clinical instructor for SUNY Brockport in 2009. She became a full time instructor in 2012. As a Clinical Assistant Professor of Nursing, Jen works with students in the classroom, in clinical, and in the college community.
Teaching students at her own alma mater has been an incredible experience for Jen and a way of saying thanks to all the incredible nurses who taught her. Jen’s interests in teaching involve exploring new and more effective ways to engage students and in the safety issues that are shaping care standards in our current healthcare system. Jen enjoys being active with her husband and two children. Together, they enjoy watching movies, attending concerts and festivals, camping, and paddleboarding.
