Bio

Kim Young is a storyteller. As an award-winning journalist, Young’s stories have touched and transformed people’s lives. As a professor of journalism, Young is now inspiring a new generation of storytellers.

Young holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from Oswego State University, a Master of Arts in Communication Studies from Edinboro University and is a PhD candidate in Rhetorical Studies at Duquesne University.

Before becoming an academic, Young was a radio and television anchor/reporter, news director, producer, and talk show host.

Young’s research interests include: journalism ethics, civic journalism, multimedia journalism, the representation of women in television news, gender representations and influences on news content, media sociology, and alterity in journalism.

In her spare time, Young loves to read, write, swim, and travel, and spend time with her ever-expanding family.

Young’s current story centers on the molding of new multimedia journalists at The College at Brockport. She chose to come to Brockport because of the exciting potential of the journalism program, the dynamic faculty, the energy and enthusiasm of the students, and her abiding dedication to and love for the SUNY system.

Kim Young is a storyteller. The unfolding story of her passion for teaching and the impact such passion will have on Brockport’s next generation of storytellers is one that undoubtedly will transform lives. Stay tuned.
