Writing and editing for newspapers and magazines
Public relations, marketing communications, and development for higher education, not-for-profit, and governmental institutions

The portrayal of women and minority groups in the media, including the LGBT community; the evolution of the newspaper industry from an all-print medium to one slowly adapting to and embracing social media; women and gender in politics; social protest movements; philanthropy
My master’s thesis focused on the newspaper coverage of the same-sex weddings that took place in San Francisco and Boston in 2004. I studied the content of 13 newspapers across the country to examine the coverage of the LGBT community during that time frame; scouring every item from the news section to the sports pages.

First Amendment in Journalism Award, Gannett Rochester Newspapers, for uncovering and reporting on the Irondequoit Town Board holding secret meeting in direct violation of New York State Open Meetings Law (1998)
