Bio

Dr. Patti Follansbee has been a full-time member of SUNY Brockport, SUNY faculty since 1982, first in the former Health Science Department, & as a former Chair of the newly created Department of Healthcare Studies, where she teaches in the Alcohol & Substance Abuse Studies program. She completed both her Masters and Doctoral degrees in Health Education from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Until 2015, her primary teaching areas were human sexuality and family life education.

Dr. Follansbee completed the post-graduate training program in Marriage & Family Therapy from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1996. She finds her combination of teaching and clinical work enhances her expertise in both areas. Dr. Follansbee is a NY State Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, and has been in practice for over 20 years. Her current teaching in the Alcohol & Substance Abuse Studies program includes Ethics in Substance Abuse Counseling, and Internship Seminar for the Alcohol & Substance Abuse program.

Dr. Follansbee has been responsible for the growth of the department together with a team of determined faculty in Alcohol & Substance Abuse Studies & in Healthcare Administration. In addition to professional conference presentations on families & addiction, Dr. Follansbee enjoys challenging her students to develop excellence in ethical practice, and working with families with addiction issues. She also serves as an outside reader for University of Rochester Marriage & Family Therapy masters papers.

In her spare time, Dr. Follansbee enjoys living on Lake Ontario with the constant wildlife, travel, bicycle trips through different countries, fishing, occasional antique adventures, and hanging out with family, including her dogs.
