Bio

Amy Shema, PhD is an instructor in the Department of Education and Human Development. Prior to her work at the University, she taught in the Rochester City School District and worked on contracts with the US Department of Education that focused on out of school time learning, literacy, and staff development. Her research includes work with diverse families, early childhood education, and social foundations of education.

Dr. Shema grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and has called Rochester home since 2000. She enjoys spending time outdoors, kayaking, sewing, and cooking. Her favorite joy in the world is spending time with her niece and nephews and hearing them laugh.
