Title: Internal Grant Completion Highlight
Dr. Alicia Kerfoot received funding in Spring 2019 for her project “Stitching Narrative in The History and Adventures of a Lady’s Slippers and Shoes” and “The Embodied Embroidery of Cecilia’s ‘Spoilt’ Screen” from the Provost’s Post-Tenure Award.
With this funding, Dr. Kerfoot was able to travel to the UK to present her work at an international conference and do archival research at a textiles collection. She also presented work at a conference in Toronto and chaired a panel at an online conference. In addition, she was able to purchase permission right to public imaged to two different articles.
The publication in which Dr. Kerfoot’s essay on The History and Adventures of a Lady’s Slippers and Shoes appears, and which she helped to promote in Edinburgh.
Gawthorpe Hall in Lancashire, where the textile collection Dr. Kerfoot looked at is held.
Embroidery probably made for a fire screen that is in their collection and which Dr. Kerfoot found particularly fascinating because the texture of the embroidery thread (which was made of chenille and areophane) was not at all apparent until she looked at it in person.
