Paid Leave for COVID-19 Vaccinations

All employees are eligible for up to four hours of paid leave to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.

Legislation enacted on March 12, 2021, entitles all employees up to four hours of paid leave without charge to leave credits, to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. The law does not limit the number of times an employee may receive paid leave for a COVID-19 vaccination, including a COVID-19 booster vaccination.

Travel time (based on travel to and from the employee’s worksite) is included in this four-hour cap. Absence beyond the four-hour caps must be charged to leave credits.

This provision allows for paid leave for COVID-19 vaccinations scheduled during employees’ regular work hours. Employees may be required to submit satisfactory medical documentation that the absence was for the purpose of the COVID-19 Vaccination. Employees who undergo vaccinations outside their regular work schedules do so on their own time.

Timesheet Reporting

Employees using the online SUNY Time and Attendance System should enter the hours/days as Non-Chargeable leave, with the Non-Chargeable Leave Type of COVID Vaccine.

Employees completing paper timesheets should report the number of hours in the Remarks column of the timesheet, with the notation of No Charge COVID Vaccine.

Please note: Employees who received a vaccination during work hours prior to March 12, 2021, are required to charge leave accruals or be granted a leave without pay.
