The conference is designed to promote collaboration between science and policy communities – particularly lake-specific research, management, education, and nonprofit organizations.
The State of Lake Ontario Conference (SOLO2021) was held virtually on March 9 – 11 and is the fourth in an annual series of State of Lake conferences hosted by the International Association for Great Lakes Research (IAGLR) and designed to promote collaboration between science and policy communities – particularly lake-specific research, management, education, and nonprofit organizations.
- Dan Beers, graduate student advised by Dr. Michael Chislock, presented a poster titled “Evaluating effects of Braddock Bay barrier beach restoration on water quality and trophic state”.
- Sarah Kirkpatrick, graduate student advised by Dr. Rachel Schultz, presented a poster titled “Evaluating restoration techniques for a coastal fen on Lake Ontario degraded by Typha x glauca and shrub encroachment”.
- Aaron Heisey, graduate student advised by Dr. Jacques Rinchard, presented a poster titled “Spatial variability of thiamine concentration and fatty acid signatures in lake trout from Lake Ontario”.
- Greg Lawrence, research scientist, presented an oral communication titled “Application of the Great Lakes Coastal Wetland Monitoring Program to restoration projects in Lake Ontario wetlands”.
- Matt Futia, former graduate student of Dr. Jacques Rinchard and current PhD student at the University of Vermont, presented an oral communication from his work completed during his master thesis at Brockport: “Thiamine deficiency monitoring in Lake Ontario lake trout during the 2013 and 2018 CSMI”.
- Rachel Schultz, presented an oral communication titled “Vegetation response to wetland restoration in Braddock Bay of Lake Ontario”.
- Jacques Rinchard presented an oral communication titled “Prevalence of thiamine deficiency complex in salmonines from Lake Ontario”.
