Title: Student Teachers Gain Leg Up on Competition
Date: March 09, 2021
Summary: The partnership between SUNY Brockport and Brockport Central School District allowed student teaching candidates to participate in professional (virtual) mock interviews with experts from local school districts.
Body:
The tradition of an end-of-semester mock interview professional development event continued despite all the challenges and changes presented in fall 2020. Heartfelt thanks go to Brandon Broughton, Principal of Hill Elementary School at Brockport Central School District (BCSD), Lisa Montanaro, Instructional Coach emeritus at BCSD and Coordinator of TESOL Placements at SUNY Brockport, and Lorraine De Siena, teacher emeritus at Greece Central School District and Coordinator of Supervisors and Student Teachers at the college.
These experienced educators posed as the interviewers and provided a balanced and rich experience to Jie Zhang’s student teaching candidates in the Childhood Inclusive Program via Zoom. This event provided the student teaching candidates an exceptional opportunity to practice their interview skills, receive constructive feedback and insightful suggestions, gain confidence, and build on interviewing experience for professional positions. It also helped strengthen the partnership between the college and BCSD.
