Dr. Morag Martin, Department of History, examines how the Sisters of Nonnatus in BBC’s The Midwife represent a utopian vision of health care.

The chapter examines how the Sisters of Nonnatus in the BBC television show represent an utopian vision of health care anchored in the Christian charity and selfless love that challenges both the 1950s National Health Service and Anglican Church, as well as our current conceptions of nursing and midwifery.
