SUNY Brockport faculty (Dr. Afeez Hazzan, Dr. Jason Dauenhauer, and Dr. Patti Follansbee), published a landmark research study in the journal BMC Geriatrics. Led by Dr. Hazzan, the study linked family caregiver (i.e., family members who provide uncompensated care) quality of life to the quality of care provided to older adults living with dementia. Findings from the study suggest that caregiver quality of life is important for the care they provide to their loved ones living with dementia. The study also highlights the need for the provision of much-needed support for caregivers and older people living with dementia, particularly in a community setting.

Lifespan of Greater Rochester, a local community organization that provides services for older adults and caregivers, was a collaborator on the study which also involved an alumnus and community members serving as co-investigators.
