Dr. Jacques Rinchard was awarded $69,927 from the U.S. Geological Survey - Lake Ontario Biological Station, through the Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit network, to monitor thiamine deficiency in lake trout from the Great Lakes region.
Dr. Rinchard, in collaboration with graduate student, Tom Blowers, and undergraduate students, will provide lake trout egg thiamine concentrations to managers of the lake trout restoration programs across the Great Lakes Basin, which includes lakes Superior, Huron, Michigan, Erie, Ontario, Champlain, and Cayuga, to determine whether egg thiamine is related to prey fish community structure within the study lakes. They will also evaluate thiamine concentrations in Atlantic salmon from Lake Ontario.
The award will be administered by The Research Foundation for SUNY at SUNY Brockport.
