Michael Boston, Department of African and African American Studies, published an article on the National Negro Business League activities in New York City in the Journal of New York History.
The title of the article is “Booker T. Washington and the New York City Negro Business League’s Role in Increasing Black Business in New York City.” This article covers uplift activities of the National Negro Business League (NNBL) in New York City and argues and demonstrates that it was progressive in fomenting African American business development.
In 1900 Booker T. Washington spearheaded the formation of this organization. Much has been written about his industrial education programs but not much about his efforts to promote entrepreneurialism. This article underlines a number of those early twentieth-century efforts in conjunction with the New York NNBL members who attempted to implement them.
