Title: Communication Professor Publishes Article on Critical Interpersonal & Family Communication Pedagogy

Date: September 17, 2021
Summary: Dr. Veronica Droser, Department of Communication, published a peer-reviewed article introducing a new approach to pedagogy.
Body:

Dr. Veronica Droser recently published an article introducing and advocating for a new approach to pedagogy in the fields of Interpersonal and Family Communication (IFC). The piece, entitled “Cultivating Change: An Introduction and Invitation to Critical Interpersonal and Family Communication Pedagogy,” was featured in a special issue of Review of Communication focused on the critical turn in IFC.

The piece introduces Critical Interpersonal and Family Communication Pedagogy (CIFCP) and presents three considerations: 1) teach to transform, 2) create reflexive classrooms, and 3) abolish the public-private binary. Through each consideration, teacher-scholars from within and outside of IFC are called to (re)commit themselves to their social responsibilities, and are challenged to consider the steps they can take toward (re)developing their curriculum in an effort to reimagine their classrooms as transformative, reflexive, and political spaces.

Dr. Droser’s pedagogical commitments have widespread applicability, particularly at a liberal arts college like SUNY Brockport. If you are interested in reading the piece or learning more about CIFCP, you can contact Dr. Droser
