Title: Faculty Contacts Needed for (Virtual) Open Registration

Date: August 18, 2021
Summary: Virtual Open Registration will take place on August 27 from 12–3 pm. If not done so already, Department Chairs are encouraged to identify faculty contacts with the Vice Provost’s office no later than August 25.
Body:

(Virtual) Open Registration: August 27, Noon–3 pm.

The shift in the delivery of Open Registration was initially in response to COVID-19 restrictions. The updated platform has proved to benefit all involved and has significantly cut down on the number of students needing advisement three days before the beginning of the semester. In addition, it will eliminate the need for faculty representatives to meet in the Ballroom the Friday before classes begin.

Action Item

Major departments are encouraged to identify faculty contacts for the Virtual Open Registration process taking place on August 27 from 12–3 pm. If not done so already, Department Chairs are asked to share names with Kandie Gay (kgay@brockport.edu) from the Vice Provost’s office no later than August 25.

Department Chairs and Advisement Coordinators will receive an updated list of unregistered new transfers every day after August 23. An updated list of unregistered new transfers will be shared with identified department representatives the morning of Open Registration. Appointments to meet students may be made through Eagle SUCCESS; directions to make appointments are included in the link below. Web Registration will not be turned off on August 27.

The academic departments’ ability to overload closed courses using Web Banner will be turned off. This has been done to prevent departments from overloading classrooms due to the new SUNY-mandated seating capacities.

Faculty can only provide overrides in Web Banner for courses they are teaching. Instructions for entering overrides in Banner will be sent out from Registration and Records on August 25.

Dr. Eileen Daniel and the staff of the Academic Success Center will be available to assist on or before August 27. Please feel free to contact Erin Rickman, Associate Director of the Academic Success Center with any questions.

The goal is to continue advisement and registration throughout these last remaining days. New transfers continue to be accepted and are submitting their deposits. Outreach and timely advisement are incredibly important. The ASC will continue to provide lists of newly deposited students in need of schedules for Fall 2021 as we approach the 27.

We look forward to working together as we meet the various needs of our incoming students!
