Title: Women & Gender Studies Professor Serves as Invited Faculty for the Summer ’21 Virtual NYI

Summary: The NY-St. Petersburg Institute of Linguistics, Cognition, and Culture (NYI) is an advanced study program with focus on linguistics, cognitive, and critical cultural studies. Dr. Barbara LeSavoy’s Seminar was titled ” Navigating Identities: Intersectional Politics of Race, Class, Gender, and Civic Voice.”

NYI, prior to the pandemic,  is  held in St. Petersburg, Russia.  This summer,V-NYI-3  was held July 15-30, in the NY virtual sky Participants take mini-courses with international scholars in a range of fields, especially those that do not fall neatly into traditional discipline areas. Summer 2021 was the 20th session of NYI. Since 2003, over 1200 participants from 58 countries and over 60 Russian Federation cities have received certificates for completing the NYI Seminar Programs.

Dr. LeSavoy’s  Navigating Identities seminar examined gender and women’s studies with a focus on identity politics as represented theoretically, historically, and in popular culture.  This is Dr. LeSavoy’s 5th time serving as invited NYI faculty.
