Title: Student’s Research Skills Earns National Recognition
Each year in November, the Eastern Analytical Symposium (EAS) holds an exhibition on analytical chemistry at Plainsboro NJ. As part of the symposium, there are also award presentations including one award category for undergraduate students. Matthew Too was chosen to be one of the award winners for this year based on the nomination letter submitted by his research mentor Dr. Markus Hoffmann (Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry) that addressed the criterium of “how the student handles research, deals with problems, and gets involved in the research process.”
Too is currently participating his third summer research experience under the guidance of Dr. Hoffmann. The results from summer 2019, where Too traveled with Dr. Hoffmann to the collaborating lab of Professor Buntkowsky’s research group in Germany, led to a co-authored publication in the Journal of Physical Chemistry B. Even during the pandemic, research continued through summer 2020, this time on Molecular Dynamics simulations on a project funded by the National Science Foundation and that work will continue this summer. Matthew presented his research outcomes at several venues, including the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR).
