Week 33: February 10, 2023

I’m still laughing from the fun on Team Day during Super Bowl Family Feud. Thanks to John for organizing, congrats to the winning team, and a nice job by Anthony for holding it together despite some questionable survey lists.

Here are some updates:

  • Dan Lynd has been appointed as the permanent Manager of University Events. Congratulations to Dan and thank you to Kelsey and the search team for a thorough process. We hope to name the Coordinator of University Events very soon.
  • It’s NYS budget season and President Macpherson and I will be out and about meeting with our state legislators over the next few weeks. The Governor is in town on Monday to do a presentation on her proposed budget.
  • Earlier this week the Daily Eagle shared news about the Investment Fund process for the spring. Dollars will be available in 2023-24 for accepted proposals. If you have ideas, share with your supervisor. Proposals are due mid-March and will be reviewed by the JPBC.

Upcoming events to note:

  • OEDI is hosting two events next week: the Invitation to Dialogue Series will be Tuesday the 14th in 119 of the Union, and the Brown Bag Lunch and Learn will be Friday at 12:20 in 220 of the Union.
  • The Green & Gold Star Award recognition ceremony was re-scheduled to Friday, Feb. 17, at halftime of the women’s (5:30 pm) and men’s (7:30 pm) basketball games in Tuttle.
  • One upcoming alumni event to note: Amerks’ Kids Day with SUNY Brockport is Sunday, Feb. 19. If you are interested you need to buy tickets ($20 each, $10 for children under 10) by today. Contact Kelsey if you are interested.
  • The MLK Lecture with author and Princeton University professor Imani Perry will be Thursday, Feb. 23, at 7 pm in the McCue Auditorium of the Fannie Barrier Williams Building
  • Jim Wall, VP for Administration & Finance, will present a Budget Town Hall on Wed., March 1, at 12:10 pm in the McCue Auditorium.
  • Another reminder that the annual Day of Giving is coming up. This intense 24-hour stretch – midnight to midnight on Tuesday, March 21 – will be focused on bringing as many gifts and donors as possible to the campus during that time. Support for any and all funds will be the focus, with special challenges sprinkled in throughout the entire day. Mark it on your calendars!
  • We have tentatively scheduled our own alumni Candy Hall of Fame member, Troy Pearley ’92, for a March 27 visit to campus. He will go to some classes, do a lecture/presentation, and more. Hold the date on your calendar. There may be chocolate samples.

Enjoy the Super Bowl on Sunday!
