Departmental News:

Professional Portrait of Laura Merkl Finance and Management (FM):

Finance and Management is pleased to announce that Laura Merkl has accepted the position of Director of Scholarship, Research, and Sponsored Programs and began her new role on September 15. Laura has been a part of the SUNY Brockport campus for more than 25 years as a Research Foundation employee. She obtained her degrees while working full-time and is a recent graduate of the SUNY SAIL Institute Business Officers’ Leadership Academy. The new Scholarship, Research, and Sponsored Programs Office will merge the Scholar and Grant Office and Research Foundation Post-Award Office into one office that supports both pre and post awards. This will streamline processes and provide seamless assistance to faculty, staff, and students as they navigate their grants from initial submission through the award process and eventual closeout. As Director, Laura will report to both the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Eileen Daniel, and Karen Riotto, Assistant Vice President for Finance and Management. We are excited for Laura to oversee this newly formed office and over the next several months, Laura will be leading the transition of the offices from two into one.

Human Resources (HR):

October is National Retirement Security Month (NRSM)! NRSM is a national event to promote the benefits of saving for retirement and to encourage everyone to do so through all available options, including employer-sponsored retirement plans like the New York State Deferred Compensation Plan (NYSDCP). The NYSDCP will be hosting special webinars this month on retirement topics; check out their Webinar Schedule for offerings and registration.
