A couple of motivational quotes to think about during a very busy start to the fall semester:
“Nothing is impossible. Even the word itself says, ‘I’m possible!’” – Audrey Hepburn
“We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
I can always use some quotes like these when the work is seemingly overwhelming and you are feeling that not everything you are doing is being appreciated or acknowledged. But know that it is, and your value to our team and the College is immense.
It has been a very busy start to the semester and many of us are learning new things and working through new and changing processes. The ultimate reward: knowing that what we do is helping our students succeed.
Out first “Team Day” is this coming Tuesday when everyone will be working on campus. David is “in charge” of this one which will include our birthday celebrations for September and a team-building exercise. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at 1 p.m. in the 3rd floor conference room.
College Senate on Monday included continuing dialogue on the new General Education requirements that need to be in place by next fall. Work with Garrett or Janet (your Senators) if you have input or need info.
Tuesday was what some were calling the “best meeting ever.” A group of us got together with our Nexus Licensing Group to brainstorm ideas around targeted products for alumni, faculty, and staff: a Tartan pattern for scarves, ties, socks, etc.; branded ice cream!; and branded beer! We’ll see how this progresses. I’m thinking there may be some interested taste testers for a few of the ideas.
Extended Cabinet on Wednesday (as well as some other discussions throughout the week) centered on an update from BASC on food service and the bookstore – Debbie, Brad, Kerry and I went to Harrison for lunch yesterday and had a great meal! – as well as SUNY Enrollment Fund Ideas and learning conversations around marketing – thanks to Debbie and Janet for yesterday’s Teams call with Dixon Schwabl on our digital marketing plans.
