Week 4: July 22, 2022

What a great “Taste of the Tropics” event at Burlingame House last Saturday night! Everything about the evening was first class. All guests, hosts, and our sponsor thoroughly enjoyed the cocktail hour, music, dinner, dessert, and comradery. Kudos to Jamie for the creativity and planning, Danique and Dan for the logistics, and everyone on the team who contributed to the success of the event.

Brockport was a sponsor of last Saturday’s Pride Parade in downtown Rochester. The College had a great turnout of about 40 faculty, staff, students and alums. We even made the news: https://www.whec.com/rochester-new-york-news/2022-pride-parade-colors-rochester/6527440/

Thursday afternoon was the first planning meeting for the naming and dedication of the Fannie Barrier Williams Building (formerly the Liberal Arts Building). The ceremony will be a kick-off event for Homecoming on Thursday, Oct. 6. We hope everyone can take some time out of their busy schedule to attend.

We are working with DS+CO (Dixon Schwabl), a partner marketing company, to take a fresh look at our brand framework. The updated brand framework, resulting from this work, will be used to advance a succinct and comprehensive brand narrative about the College—one that can be employed with internal and external audiences to support recruitment and retention efforts well into the future. Debbie can share more information on this for those who are interested. We expect to have a final plan at the end of 2022.

A Comprehensive Campaign update … As we bring the Campaign out of its “pause” status this fall, we are working on a series of small engagement events (lunches and dinners with major prospects) in New York City, Washington, DC, Naples, FL, San Diego and Los Angeles, CA, and right here in Rochester. This week involved some prospect list re-shuffling and discussions around Brockport Foundation committees. We will try to provide the entire Division of A&C with regular updates on Campaign progress.

Wednesday was the annual Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) lunch with the students and their faculty sponsors, along with other campus staff. The students shared their impressive research progress and were treated to a fantastic lunch prepared by program director Dr. Adam Rich. Our students are doing amazing things!

I am on vacation next week so there won’t be a newsletter. Enjoy the last week of July!
