Week 3: July 15, 2022

It’s a big day tomorrow as we welcome about 100 guests for a Taste of the Tropics dinner at Burlingame House. This will be our largest Advancement-hosted event since Homecoming last fall. Kudos to Jamie for all of the great planning to make this happen and to Kevin, Danique, Dan, and everyone else for the support. Should be a warm, beautiful, and fun night!

The annual reports for both College Communications and Advancement were submitted this week. A big thanks to John F., Debbie, and Janet for the work on the CC one and to Brad, Jamie, John, Kerry, David, and Joanne for the info in the Advancement piece. Both documents prove how impressive the work is that all of you do. Thanks to everyone for the roles you play in Building a Better Brockport. I’ve attached both documents for your reading pleasure.

Earlier this week I was able to have lunch and introduce our Brockport Foundation chair, Michael Doyle ’80, to our new Provost, Dr. Martin Abraham. We had a great conversation about the College and the role of the Foundation, as well as Michael’s history as a former BSG President. For those who don’t know, Michael hosts our alumni podcast series. Eight episodes have been produced and are available on the alumni website.

Garrett did a great job yesterday bringing together a nice group of about 20 campus faculty and staff for the Brockport Employee Altogether Collective (BEAC) lunch at Alumni House. Several of those who attended were brand new employees of the College. Garrett, thanks for taking the lead in this effort while helping all employees, new or veteran, feel welcome on campus. The next BEAC event is a happy hour at 4 pm at Custom House on Thursday, July 28. All are welcome.

Brockport is sponsoring a table at next Friday’s gala for the Rochester Jamaican Organization, Inc., (RJO) celebrating the 60th year of Jamaica’s independence. One of the special guests will be SUNY Brockport graduate Yendi Phillips ’06, the 2007 Miss Jamaica World and 2010 Miss Universe First Runner-up. Damita Davis, Karen Podsiadly, and others, including new BSG President Felicia Amoafo Kumi, will represent the College at the dinner.

Reminder: Our second FREE Hot Dog Day of the year is Wednesday, Aug. 3, from noon to 1:30. It will be in the Union and on the patio facing Rakov. And there will be live music!

Enjoy this beautiful and warm weekend!
