Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence 2023
The SUNY Chancellor’s Awards for Student Excellence is the highest honor bestowed upon a student by the University. We seek nominations of students who have best demonstrated the integration of SUNY excellence within many aspects of their lives, which must include three of the following areas:
The General Award with special achievement in at least three of the following areas:
- Academic Excellence
- Leadership
- Campus Involvement
- Community Service
- Creative Arts
Three students from SUNY Brockport will be awarded this honor.
Marion D. Schrank Student Leadership Award
This award is the pinnacle of student leadership awards at SUNY Brockport that recognizes an outstanding student who demonstrates scholastic achievement, exemplary leadership, and a commitment to the University through leadership in a student organization and/or student employment. Applicants must demonstrate a record of exemplary leadership, scholastic achievement, and commitment to the University community through various modes of involvement, including campus organizations, leadership positions, peer mentorship, engaged learning, and community service. Recipients of this award exemplify integrity and civility, demonstrate a commitment to citizenship and the creation of an inclusive Brockport community.
Campus Compact Newman Civic Fellowship
This fellowship recognizes and supports community-committed students who have demonstrated an investment in finding solutions for challenges facing communities throughout the country. The fellowship, named for Campus Compact founder Frank Newman, provides training and resources that nurture students’ assets and passions to help them develop strategies to achieve social change. Through the fellowship, Campus Compact provides learning opportunities focused on the skills fellows need in order to serve as effective agents of change in addressing public problems and building equitable communities.
Josh Silber ’93 Excellence in Leadership Award
This award recognizes an entering junior or senior year student who demonstrates leadership skills through service to the University and/or community and scholastic achievement. Examples include, but are not limited to, service in a leadership position with Brockport Student Government (BSG) or other student clubs and organizations, being a successful and respected Resident Assistant (RA), and/or organizing and leading a group of peers or others in a successful fundraising or community service activity. The recipient will demonstrate how their academic studies, leadership experience, and extracurricular activities contribute to their personal development and future plans after at-tending Brockport through a 500-word essay. Applicants must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher and return for study at Brockport after receiving the award.
John R. Halstead Family Leadership in Higher Education Award
This award recognizes an entering junior or senior year student who demonstrates strong academic achievement and leadership skills through service to the University and/or community. The recipient must also show genuine commitment to a career in high education and further studies in student development. Applicants must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher and return for study at Brockport after receiving the award.
Donald and Gloria Huot Excellence in Leadership Award
This award recognizes an entering junior or senior year student who demonstrates strong academic achievement and leadership skills through service to the University and/or community. Preference is given to first-generation college students. Applicants must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher and return for study at Brockport after receiving the award.
Lathan H. & Alyce M. Lampen Award
This award recognizes an undergraduate student who is dedicated to creating and advancing a humane society through their service to others, leadership values that are essential to individual dignity, and by possessing a positive, constructive outlook on life. Applicants must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, completed at least one academic year or 30 credits at Brockport, and have at least one academic year of study remaining.
George Rich Student Philanthropy Award
This award recognizes a student who has made significant contributions to the University community in the form of service, monetary donation, or creative works through time and/or talent, and/or inspired others to be similarly involved. Applicants will nominate an on-campus philanthropic, educational, or cultural endeavor to receive an additional award.
Ray M. DiPasquale Student Life Award
This award recognizes a student who is actively involved on campus and/or in student organizations and demonstrates strong academic achievement. Applicants must have an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher, be of sophomore status and have at least two semesters of study remaining after receiving the award, and demonstrate a need for financial assistance as determined by the FAFSA.
