Located in Greater Rochester (Monroe County), SUNY Brockport is 16 miles from downtown Rochester, and 45 miles east of Buffalo, NY. The department of Campus Recreation provides opportunities to recreate through Informal Recreation, Fitness and Wellness, Club Sports and Intramurals, and Instructional Programs. The Special Events Recreation Center (SERC) opened in the summer of 2012, serves as the home for Campus Recreation and was a NIRSA Outstanding Sports Facility recipient in 2013.

Compensation

  • An annual stipend of $7,500 and a tuition waiver for 9 credit hours (employee is responsible for student fees) per semester. 

Description of Duties:

  • The assistantship requires a minimum 20 hours per week commitment from mid-August through mid-May.
  • Assist the Assistant Director with the supervision, training, scheduling, and leadership of all the fitness center student employees.
  • Assist the Facility Coordinator with the management of the SERC, management of special events, and the facilitation of Outside Agencies.
  • Participate in orientation, homecoming, commencement, departmental special events, and other campus-wide activities.
  • Assist with the Risk Management Committee as well as scheduling, maintenance, and ordering of equipment for the SERC.
  • Develops marketing strategies, promotional materials, and social media content to promote and publicize fitness, instructional and wellness programs.
  • Attend departmental meetings as scheduled.
  • Position requires working some weekend and evening hours.
  • Serve on committees as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Business, Marketing, Sport Management, Exercise Science or related field.
  • Experience in fitness and/or facility operations.
  • A cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least a 3.0 and accepted into a SUNY Brockport Graduate Program.
  • Must be able to interact effectively with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population.
  • Willingness to obtain certification as a CPR/AED and First Aid instructor.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience working in a Collegiate Recreation setting.
  • Experience working with recreation software packages such as IM Leagues, Innosoft Fusion, Reach, SubItUp.
  • Certified in personal training or group exercise from a nationally recognized fitness organization (ACSM, NSCF, NASM, AFAA, ACE, NETA etc.).
  • Strong interpersonal, motivational, communication and relational skills.
  • Experience in training and management of employees.
