What is temporary academic leave?
Students whose progress toward degree completion is interrupted by circumstances beyond their control may apply for leave up to three consecutive semesters (fall, spring, summer). A Temporary Academic Leave form must be completed. Leaves of absence approved by the department will not be charged against the continuous enrollment or time to degree completion Brockport graduate policies.

I can‘t finish my thesis this semester; what am I supposed to do?
Graduate students who have registered for the maximum number of program thesis/project credits and have not yet completed the thesis/project must register for one credit of research/project continuance each semester until the thesis/project has been completed and approved. The completion of continuation credits (TCC) are evaluated as either satisfactory or unsatisfactory. TCC credits do not count toward degree requirements, nor are the grades for these credits used in the calculation of GPA. Students and their thesis advisers are encouraged to develop a TCC plan that informs the work of the semester. TCC is not required for the summer or winter semester. Get the TCC Credit Form.

What types of instruction are offered?
Online, In-Person, Hybrid classes are offered depending on the academic program and semester of interest.
What is a hybrid course?
A hybrid course includes both online and in-person instruction.
What is independent study?
Independent study courses permit graduate students to pursue previously studied topics in greater depth. A content outline for each independent study course is developed through consultation between the student and the instructor/sponsor to suit the needs and interests of the student and the special competence of the instructor.
What is directed study?
Directed Study is designed to be a substitute for a traditional course not offered in the semester for which the student wishes to enroll. The material covered in such courses is essentially the same as that in the traditional course.
What steps do I need to complete to receive transfer credit?
You can initiate the process by sending an official transcript to the Center for Graduate Studies. The Center for Graduate Studies will attach the transcript to your student record and notify your academic advisor. Your academic advisor should then submit a transfer credit request form to the Office of Registration and Records.
Is there a limit to the number of credits I can transfer?
A maximum of 12 graduate credits earned at other colleges and universities may be transferred into a SUNY Brockport graduate degree program with the academic department’s approval. The course must carry a grade of “B” or better.
When should I make a transfer credit request?

Can I transfer undergraduate credits into my graduate program?
