Writing Sample:

Please include a copy of something you personally wrote for work or previous graduate work that shows your capacity for critical thinking and professional writing. Doctoral programs involve a great deal of writing and it is important to ensure you are ready for this level of work. Please make sure your sample is something you wrote yourself. Any content that is not your own in the sample should be cited appropriately. If work is submitted that is not the author’s own and not cited as such will automatically disqualify the applicant from consideration for admission. Plagiarism is grounds for dismissal from the doctoral program.

Note: Writing Sample is only required for DNP applicants.

Licensure:

MS
Applicants to the master’s program who are not currently nurse practitioners must submit a current copy of their NYS licensure as a registered nurse.

CAS
Applicants to the Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) that hold an advanced practice provider (NP, CNM, CRNA) license must submit a current copy of their advanced licensure.

DNP
Applicants to the DNP program must submit a current copy of their NP license as well as their NYS registration as a nurse practitioner.

Applicants to the DNP program who are not currently nurse practitioners must submit a current copy of their NYS licensure as a registered nurse and their anticipated date of licensure as an NP.

Applicants who are not yet licensed NP’s, but anticipating NP licensure by the start of the fall semester, are eligible to apply for the DNP program. If admitted, new NP providers may proceed in the DNP program one course at a time while adapting to their new role as an NP.

Applicants who are Advanced practice providers and are not NP’s (AG-PCNP, CNM, CRNA) are not eligible for DNP admission until the CAS program is completed and NP licensure is obtained. Please contact the NP program director, Beth Heavey, if you wish to consider this option (eheavey@brockport.edu).
