What You’ll Learn
In this minor you will study music theory, history, and applied music. In addition, you’ll hone your music and performance skills through electives and a range of ensembles.
You’ll benefit from our unique collaboration with Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO). The RPO hosts performances on campus, teach music courses and present lecture-demonstrations.

Curriculum
The music minor consists of 18 credits in theory, history and applied music. Gain a global appreciation of music. From African Music and Drumming to the music of Bollywood, you’ll study music tradition from around the world. For your applied music classes, you’ll study piano, voice, or conduct independent study.
As a music minor you will spend 2 semesters participating in an ensemble of your choice. With a wide variety of ensembles you’ll have performance opportunities throughout the semester!

We recommend submitting first-year applications in October or early November. We decide your admission once you complete your application.

Ensembles
Brockport’s music ensembles are open to all without an audition. All ensembles are one credit and can be taken either with or without credit. So dust off your old instrument (or vocal cords) and come join in the music making! Options include:
- University-Community Chorus
- Concert Band
- University-Community Orchestra
- Jazz Ensemble/Big Band
- Guitar Ensemble
- Xylophone-Percussion Ensembles
- Gospel Choir
