International Education Week 2022
November 14 – 18, 2022
The Center for Global Education and Engagement (CGEE) invites you to join the celebration of International Education Week (IEW), November 14 - 18, 2022.
IEW is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of the efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences.
To spread awareness about international exchange, CGEE will be celebrating with relevant activities and campus collaborations.
Monday, November 14
Coffee vs. Tea table (Kick-off Event)
Time: 9 – 10 am
Location: Front of Dailey Hall
Description: They say the world is distinguished by coffee and tea. Stop by our IEW kickoff table to get a complimentary cup of coffee or tea as we kick-off IEW and to learn about the events happening all week!
Mexico: Universidad Internacional Tabling
Time: 11 am - 1 pm
Location: Seymour Union Lounge
Description: Stop by the Union to speak with representatives from Universidad Internacional to learn more about Brockport’s partnership and an opportunity to study in Mexico.
Market Your Study Abroad Experience: Put Your Global Education to Work (presented by ROC Your Global Future) *

Description: In this workshop you will learn how to communicate the value of your study abroad experience to potential employers. We will discuss techniques to highlight your study abroad experience in your personal branding, resume, cover letter and interviews and share specific examples.

Storytelling After Study Abroad (presented by ROC Your Global Future)*

Description: A common experience reported by students upon their return home is this: even the people who love you a lot quickly glaze over as you tell your stories. If you don’t find a way to engage people in your primary community in an ongoing conversation about your travel experience, it can begin to seem like a dream you had. This session takes a close look at how we select and craft our stories so that they might open a longer and deeper conversation reflecting on our memories and integrating them as we go forward.

Traveling the World with Jo Franco: Netflix TV Host, Writer and Influencer (presented by ROC Your Global Future)*

Description: Jo Franco is a well-known Travel & Language Content Creator, Polyglot, Writer, and TV Host. Jo has been an influencer for more than a decade, and with over 1.3 million subscribers, she works to inspire a global community to improve themselves through learning languages, cultures, financial literacy, adventure and inclusion. She is the CEO of JoClub, the mastermind behind the Not Your Average Jo podcast, the creator of two YouTube channels, a host of Netflix’s World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals, and so much more. Pre-registration is encouraged.

Description: If you are looking for a truly immersive international experience that allows you to live like a local, you should consider teaching abroad. In this session you will hear from current and former teachers and learn things like how to find a position, how to be a successful teacher in another country and how to prepare for this one-of-a-kind adventure.

Peace Corps (presented by ROC Your Global Future)*

Description: Students will learn about meaningful opportunities to go abroad after graduation with the Peace Corps. Through Peace Corps’ two-year program life-defining experiences, volunteers get the chance to fully integrate into a host country community, where they live and work on projects related to education, health, economic development, environment, agriculture and youth development. Volunteers sharpen their skills in the field and are challenged with new opportunities, and go to work every day excited by the opportunity to make change. This session will cover our available programs, benefits and commitment, the requirements, and how to apply.

Post-baccalaureate International Fellowships & Scholarships (presented by ROC Your Global Future)*

Description: This session will discuss post-baccalaureate fellowships and scholarships for students seeking to go abroad after they graduate. Some of the programs covered will include US Student Fulbright, Schwarzman Scholarship, Boren Awards, Critical Language Scholarship, Congress Bundestag/DAAD, Princeton in Asia, and the UK scholarships like Marshall, Gates Cambridge, and Mitchell among others.

Movie Night with International Student Organization & BSG
Time: 7 pm
Location: Union 220
Description: International Student Organization (ISO) will be showing Ratatouille in collaboration with BSG. Pizza and drinks will be provided. We are hoping to have a student worker tabling for Study Abroad there too.
