Outstanding Undergraduate Award
The School of Education, Health, and Human Services Outstanding Undergraduate Award recognizes the School’s top scholar. To qualify, a student must be a senior who has earned a minimum 3.75 GPA, exhibited a strong master of understanding/performance element in their discipline, and demonstrated a significant service element related directly to their department or program.

Karen J. Lathigee-Blank
Karen J. Lathigee-Blank is completing her public health major with a 3.77 GPA. She is a member of the Eta Sigma Gamma Honors Society, has been employed for 22 years with the YMCA of Greater Rochester, and volunteers for the Hilton United Methodist Church. Karen has been a research assistant to Dr. Rhodes, Dr. Antwi, and Hunter Czajkowski. Upon graduating, she plans to work as a Public Health Consultant for any organization that needs her experience-based skills and is especially interested in the University of Rochester, the YMCA of Greater Rochester, or the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors. In 1993, Karen completed her Associate Degree in Applied Science – Recreational Therapy.
Outstanding Graduate Award
The School of Education, Health, and Human Services Outstanding Graduate Award is presented to an outstanding graduate student who is matriculated in a program leading to a master’s degree or certificate of advanced study. The recipient must have a minimum GPA of 3.85 and have made significant contributions to the profession and/or to the community in the field of graduate discipline (e.g. scholarly publication, leadership in the field, or outstanding clinical performance).

Hunter S. Czajkowski
Hunter Czajkowski is completing her Master of Public Health with a 4.0 GPA. She has been a pole vaulter on SUNY Brockport’s Varsity Track Team, the treasurer of the Pre-professional Health Club, the vice president of the Public Health Club, and a volunteer in the NICU at the University of Rochester. She received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award in 2022. Hunter completed nine published orthopedic research projects through her involvement with Tri-County Orthopedics and is currently involved in two research projects with Brockport’s Department of Public Health. Upon graduating, she will be applying for medical school with the hopes of starting her medical program in fall 2024 and using her master’s degree in public health in the interim. She previously received her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from SUNY Brockport (2022).
Departmental Scholar Awards
The Departmental Scholar Awards that follow are presented in recognition of outstanding achievement within the academic majors. Although award criteria differ among departments, faculty from each academic major nominate and select the Departmental Scholar based on performance in the classroom, scholarly activity outside the classroom, and commitment to the discipline and/or profession.
