YEAR 1: EXPLORE AND REFLECT

  • ENGAGE fully in coursework and reflect on what interests you most
  • GAIN awareness of the Social Studies Education,Social Studies Inclusive Education, and History degree curricula
  • COMPLETE the Social Studies orientation form
  • EXPLORE the History Forum and other clubs
  • SEEK mentors among your professors
  • SUBSCRIBE to History’s social media channels via our blog
  • ATTEND History and Education public lectures and Scholar’s Day panels
  • CONSIDER spring application to be Peer Mentor in sophomore year
  • SEEK teaching-related summer job

YEAR 2: TAKE AIM

  • DECIDE on degree program
  • CREATE SSE or SSI Plan of Study and take required HST, EDI, and cognate courses
  • READ of all emails from the Certification Officer
  • BOOST major GPA to at least 3.0
  • MEET with Career Services to create a teaching resume
  • FILE field experience paperwork

YEAR 3: BUILD AND DEVELOP

  • CONTINUE to follow your Plan of Study
  • START your Social Studies pedagogy coursework and field experiences
  • BUILD skills and knowledge in 300/400-level courses
  • CREATE TEACH account, confirm fingerprinting, begin DASA, CAD, SAVE workshops
  • DO everything the Certification Officer says!
  • BEGIN creating LinkedIn profile
  • UPDATE teaching resume
  • NETWORK at Greater Rochester Teacher Recruitment Day
  • BECOME a leader in chosen club, job, volunteer work

YEAR 4: PREPARE TO LAUNCH

  • POLISH research, writing,and presentation skills in HST capstone course
  • COMPLETE your Education coursework, field experiences, and student teaching
  • MENTOR younger students
  • COMPLETE DASA, CAD,SAVE workshops
  • REGISTER for and take NYS Teacher Certification exams
  • APPLY for graduation
