Curriculum
The Long-Term Care minor is designed to prepare students who plan to work in long-term care facilities/settings such as nursing homes. For students who wish to pursue licensure as a Nursing Home Administrator, this minor will satisfy the education requirements.
Healthcare Studies faculty will offer guidance and support for students interested in pursuing this credential through individual advisement.

Admission Requirements
We recommend submitting first-year applications in October or early November. We decide your admission once you complete your application.

Nursing Home Administrator Licensure
The Long-Term Care minor will satisfy the education requirements necessary for licensure. The license also requires a 12-month internship or “two years of full-time service on the staff of a qualifying nursing home in an administrative position above the department-head level, but not above the Administrator-of-Record, requiring active participation in the administration, direction and operation of the facility, within the last five years.”

Career Outlook
The population of older adults in the US has grown from 3 million in 1900 to 52 million in 2018. This population is more likely to need long-term care (including facilities such as nursing homes) as the population increases, the need for trained professionals in this area will also increase substantially.
