Ariana-Sophia Kartsonis

Ariana-Sophia Kartsonis’s first collection of poems, Intaglio, won the Stan and Tom Wick Poetry Prize in 2006. Her second, The Rub, won the 2014 Elixir Press Poetry Award. Her chapbooks include Aloha, Vaudeville Doll; EMUseum; and By Some Miracle, a Year Lousy with Meteors (written with Cynthia Arrieu-King). She is an associate professor at Columbus College of Art and Design, where she serves as faculty advisor for Botticelli Magazine.


Julia Elliott

The New York Times wrote that Julia Elliot’s first novel, The New and Improved Romie Futch, “is imbued equally with the loopy lyricism of Barry Hannah and the whacked out paranoia of Philip K. Dick, the joyous farce of John Kennedy Toole, and the digital dystopia of William Gibson.” Her stories have appeared in the Pushcart and Best American Short Stories anthologies, and her collection The Wilds was a New York Times Book Review Editor’s Choice.


William Heyen

William Heyen’s many books include Depth of Field (1970), Crazy Horse in Stillness (1996), Shoah Train (a finalist for the 2004 National Book Award for Poetry), and his latest, The Candle: Poems of Our 20th Century Holocausts. His work has appeared in hundreds of magazines. He is an emeritus professor of English / poet in residence at SUNY Brockport.


Edward P. Jones

WRITER’S VOICE

Edward P. Jones’s novel The Known World won the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. His short stories have appeared in Essence, Callaloo, and The New Yorker, and he has published two acclaimed story collections: Lost in the City (winner of the PEN/Hemingway Award) and All Aunt Hagar’s Children. He lives in Washington, DC, and teaches fiction writing at George Washington University.


Kory Stamper

November 29, 8 pm
Cooper Hall, New York Room

Kory Stamper is a lexicographer for Merriam-Webster and the author of Word by Word: The Secret Life of Dictionaries, published in March 2017. The book is part memoir, part history of dictionaries; The New Yorker called it “an unlikely page-turner,” and Publisher’s Weekly called it “occasionally profane.” Her blog, “Harmless Drudgery,” is at korystamper.wordpress.com.
