Jim Whorton Jr. is the author of the novels Angela Sloan, Approximately Heaven, and Frankland. A former Mississippian and former Tennessean, he lives in Rochester with his wife and their daughter. He teaches writing at SUNY Brockport.
Thom Metzger
Novelist, Essayist, & Poet
Thom Metzger has lived his entire life in the Burnt Over District of Western New York State. He is the author of three novels, Big Gurl, Shock Totem, and Drowning in Fire; three works of nonfiction: Blood and Volts: Edison, Tesla and the Electric Chair; The Birth of Heroin; and Select Strange and Sacred Sites: the Ziggurat Guide to Western New York; and one book of short fiction and poetry: This is Your Final Warning. His newest book is Hydrogen, Sleep, and Speed: A Verse Tale of Rommel, Egypt, Angry Gods, Dr. Caligari, and Amphetamines.
Aimee Nezhukumatathil

Aimee Nezhukumatathil is the author of three collections of poetry: Lucky Fish, winner of the Hoffer Grand Prize; At the Drive-In Volcano, winner of the Balcones Prize; and Miracle Fruit, winner of the Tupelo Press Prize and the ForeWord Magazine’s Book of the Year Award. Other awards for her writing include the Pushcart Prize, a poetry fellowship to the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing, the Boatwright Prize from Shenandoah, and the Richard Hugo Prize from Poetry Northwest. She is Associate Professor of English at the State University of New York-Fredonia where she was awarded the Chancellor’s Medal of Excellence. She lives in western New York with her husband and two young sons.

A translator, essayist, novelist and poet, Forrest Gander is the author of more than a dozen books, including the novel As a Friend (2008); the poetry collections Core Samples from the World, a book of poems, haibun, and collaborations with three photographers; Eye Against Eye (with photographs by Sally Mann), Torn Awake, and Science & Steepleflower; as well as the essay collection, Faithful Existence: Reading, Memory & Transcendence. His translations include Watchword, by Mexican poet Pura Lopez Colome, and Firefly Under the Tongue: Selected Poems of Coral Bracho (2008), which was the finalist for the PEN Translation Prize. In 2008, Gander was named a United States Artists Rockefeller Fellow. He is also the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Guggenheim, Howard, and Whiting Foundations, and he has twice received the Gertrude Stein Award for Innovative Poetry. Gander lives in Rhode Island, where he is professor of English and Comparative Literature at Brown University. He teaches courses on phenomenology and poetics, Asian-American literature, and translation.

Mark Slouka’s books include Lost Lake (stories), the novels God’s Fool and The Visible World, and two works of non-fiction, War of the Worlds, a cultural critique of technological society, and, most recently, Essays from the Nick of Time, which won the PEN/Diamonstein-Spielvogel Award for the Art of the Essay. A Contributing Editor at Harper’s, his stories and essays have appeared in Harper’s, Granta, Agni, Orion and The Paris Review, among other publications, as well as in Best American Essays, Best American Stories and the PEN/ O. Henry Prize Stories. An NEA and Guggenheim Fellowship recipient, he’s taught at the University of California, Harvard, Columbia and, most recently, the University of Chicago. Currently he lives with his family in Canton, New York and teaches at St. Lawrence University.

Hailed by Larry McMurtry “one of our finest writers,” Francine Prose is the author of numerous novels, including Goldengrove; A Changed Man, for which she won the first Dayton Literary Peace Prize in fiction; Blue Angel, which was a finalist for the 2000 National Book Award, and, most recently, My New American Life (2011). Prose’s nonfiction books include, Anne Frank: The Book, The Life, The Afterlife (2009); Reading Like A Writer (2006), The Lives of the Muses: Nine Women & the Artists They Inspired; Caravaggio: Painter of Miracles, and Gluttony, a meditation on a deadly sin. She has also written the young adult novels Bullyville and After. She is the author of Hunters and Gatherers, Bigfoot Dreamsand Primitive People, two story collections, and a collection of novellas, Guided Tours of Hell. Her stories, reviews and essays have appeared in The Atlantic Monthly, Harper’s, Best American Short Stories, The New Yorker, The New Republic, and numerous other publications.
