Career Outlook
The United States Department of Education has identified English Acquisition as a nationwide teacher shortage area, and a specific shortage area for New York State. The National Center for Education Statistics reports that 9.4% of all students in US public schools identified as English Language Learners in 2014-15.
New York and the nation as a whole expect to continue to diversify in the years ahead. The goal is to generate a sustained demand for teachers prepared to support bilingual learners.
