Further Recommendations

As soon as you have decided to become an English major, contact the department’s Advisement Coordinator to declare a concentration and get an advisor.

The major requires 30 credits of upper-division (300-400 level) English courses. Students should plan to take only two 200-level courses in order to graduate in a timely way.

English majors may pursue either the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science. The BA requires two years of study in a foreign language. When possible, English majors should choose the BA.

NB: the 200-level literature courses are not sequential. One can take, e .g ., ENG 241 American Literature II without having taken 240 .
