NOTE: Minimum grades of “C” in CHM 205 and CHM206 are required before students are allowed to take further chemistry courses in the major.

Prerequisite Courses

Chemistry courses must be taken in order. Students need to be aware of the sequential and interrelated nature of courses in chemistry, mathematics and physics.

CHM 205, 206, 303, MTH 201, 202, 203 and PHS 235, 240 are prerequisite courses for CHM 405 Physical Chemistry I and CHM 408 Physical Chem. Lab I which are often taken in the first semester of the junior year.

Further Recommendations

A student’s program can be enriched by adding additional 400-level courses and laboratory experiences (such as Instrumental Methods), to achieve an American Chemical Society certified major (47 credits in chemistry).
