  • Development and maintenance of community-wide calendar

The Communications/Community subcommittee met several times during the 2018-19 academic year and moved forward on several initiatives, including:

On April 2, 2019 President Macpherson hosted a Community Breakfast, which was held in Cooper Hall. More than 50 members of the local business community attended. Our committee supported efforts to solicit local business and community member attendees. The goal is to continue outreach to the community and extend the invitation to other local groups and organizations.

The committee received updates throughout the year as the university developed its strategic plan. Several members of the sub-committee — including the mayor — were involved with the planning. Goal 2 of the plan is: To Be a University Engaged with its Community.

The University extended the opportunity to the committee to participate in The Hate U Give, by Angie Thomas, Book Study. Approximately 50 students read the book and participated in book discussions at the high school. On, September 20, 2018, 25 students and four teachers attended the 18th Annual Diversity Conference. Additionally, seven students and their teacher were selected to present a student panel at the conference.

Dave Mihalyov and Rachel Kluth presented at the International Town Gown Committee held at Penn State on May 20, 2019 on behalf of our entire committee. We shared the many positive partnerships that have developed through our combined efforts. The presentation was well attended and extremely well received.
